Hilary Allen doesn't plan on missing a beat as the new athletic director at Meridian Community College. That was obvious by the ringing of his telephone Tuesday.
Allen, who came to MCC in 2000 as the women's head basketball coach, said he will continue to lead the Lady Eagles program, as well as take on his added responsibilities. In his first season, Allen guided MCC to a 26-5 record and Region 23 Tournament berth.
In his spare time, he's been able to attend the signing of three new tennis players, as well as trying to organize a local girls high school team for the final weekend of the State Games prep basketball competition.
Allen, a native of Kentucky, spent 16 years in Florida before coming to Meridian.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky and a master's degree from Western Kentucky.
After eight years, Smith is returning to teaching as director of the fitness center and division chair of the physical education department at MCC.
Under Smith's regime as AD, MCC has had four national championships and several runner-up titles. The college has boasted the NJCAA Female Athlete of the Year and several Region 23 and District titles in sports.
