Mr. and Mrs. David Lawrence Stevens of Meridian announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Leigh, to Stephen Paul Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Owens of Decatur, Ala.
The wedding will be held Saturday, July 14, 2001, at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Meridian.
Miss Stevens is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Dear of Bay Springs and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Crutchfield Stevens.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Meridian High School and a cum laude graduate of Mississippi College, where she received bachelor degrees in church music and music education.
While attending MC, she was a member of Laguna Social Tribe, Mississippi College Chamber Choir, Mississippi College Concert Ringers, Music Educators National Conference and recognized by "Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges."
Miss Stevens is a choral music teacher at Olde Towne Middle School in Ridgeland and is working on her master's degree in conducting at Mississippi College.
The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sowulewski; Loraine Owens and the late Thomas Owens, all of Saginaw, Mich.
Mr. Owens is a graduate of Decatur High School and received an associate degree in ornamental horticulture from Jefferson State Community College. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received a bachelor of landscape architecture degree.
While in college, Mr. Owens was a member of the Catholic Student Association, American Society of Landscape Architects and Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Owens is currently employed by Weatherford/McDade, Ltd. in Jackson.
