Good weather welcomes junior netters

With no rain in the sky on Saturday, play resumed in the State Games of Mississippi youth tennis event. Several local talents made their way to today's championship games.
One gold medal was awarded to Heather Chivas, who defeated Mary Leslie Harris in the girls 14 &under singles title match by finals of 7-5, 6-2.
Caroline King will face off against Hannah Bursom in the girls 12 &under final, while DeKalb's Brooke Bounds will take on Meridian's Lisa Schawdbater in the girls' 16 &under title game. Charlotte Heidleberg and Megan Chivaswill battle for the girls' 18 &under title.
In the girls' 12 &under doubles, Sumer Brown and Kelly Sterling face Caroline King and Elizabeth Stanford.
On the boys' side, two Meridianites, Jimmy Epps and Brian Barham face off for the gold medal, while Hunter Logan challenges James Dedaux for the 16 &under title. Collinsville's Daniel Rigdon hopes to bring home the 18 &under title against Jacob Hudson.
In the boys' 14 &under singles, Samuel Hall will face Cody Dikes in one semi-final, while Alex Boyd will take on John Patton in the other. The winner of the two matches will meet in the final.
In boys' doubles action, Josh Sonak and Scott Truesdale will compete against Alex Boyd and Chaz Dunn for the 14 &under gold medal. Chris Purdum and Russell Johnson battle Lane Rush and Wilson Cahlmus for the 18 &under doubles title.
Action will begin today at 8 a.m. at Northeast Park.
