Newly-hired volleyball and fast-pitch softball coach Susan Frazier won't be the only new kid on the block in the Meridian High School athletic department this fall.
In fact, one of the new faces at MHS is Frazier's husband; while another is a folk hero among local sports fans.
Michelle Davis, who was a four-time winner of The Meridian Star's All-Area Softball Player of the Year award, has joined the coaching ranks at Kate Griffin, according to MHS athletic director Billy Burnham.
"A lot of the young girls really think a lot of Michelle," Burnham said. "Obviously, she was a great basketball and softball player, and we're excited to have her teaching and coaching."
Davis was a three-sport standout on the prep level and played both basketball and softball during her college athletic career. She'll coach girls' basketball and teach math at Kate Griffin, and Davis will also be the assistant slow-pitch softball coach at Meridian High.
Tom Frazier has also joined the MHS coaching staff, and in addition to teaching biology, he'll be the assistant fast-pitch softball coach at MHS and coach ninth-grade basketball. He was the head boys' basketball coach at North Pontotoc last season.
"We're glad to get Susan (Frazier) and her husband both," Burnham said. "They're quality people."
The other new addition to the Wildcats' athletic program is Marty Everett of Waynesboro. Everett, a recent Southern Miss grad, will teach physical education at Carver and coach junior high basketball at Kate Griffin.
