With the Bill Davis Memorial/Fourth of July Invitational still in a two-way tie for the championship when daylight ran out Sunday around 8:30 p.m., it might have been the appropriate time for Northwood Country Club pro Jimmy Gamblin to break out the nite golf balls.
Then again, considering Gamblin had been at the course since before 7 a.m., maybe not.
Can't catch this Buzz: Members of WKZB Radio Team "The Buzz" took first place in the first-annual Philadelphia/American Heart Association Golf Tournament last Monday at Philadelphia Country Club.
Team members were Len McRae, Al Brown, Doug Thompson, and Art Matthews.
Ivy poison to young golfers: Joshua Ivy of Quitman added to his impressive summer resume by taking first place in the 12-13 age group in the Gulf Coast Junior PGA Classic at Great Southern Golf Club in Gulfport last week by seven strokes.
Over 110 players from Mississippi and Louisiana competed in the event.
Ivy had previously taken his age division in the Canton Classic and the Pros of Tomorrow at Tupelo.
Ivy is a student of Northwood Country Club pro Jimmy Gamblin.

The total purse for professional and amateur golfers is $30,000. The pros will play for cash prizes, while the amateurs will compete for gift certificates and merchandise prizes.
Robert Autry is the defending champion with Rett Crowder having won in 1999.
Boys' Junior State Am at MSU: The 2001 Mississippi Golf Association Boys' State Junior Amateur is slated for July 31-Aug. 2 at the Mississippi State University Golf Course at Starkville.
