A Lauderdale County man was killed about 12:55 a.m. Wednesday in a one-car accident at the intersection of Byrd-Joyner Road and Julius Tucker Road.
A passenger, Derek Jolly, 20, was thrown from the vehicle and the car rolled on top of him, according to Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.
The driver, 20-year-old Jamie Pauline Vaughn, who lives on Highway 493, was injured. She was taken to a local hospital emergency room, treated and released.
Calhoun said Vaughn lost control of the car while turning. He said the accident is still under investigation. The Collinsville and Martin volunteer fire departments, a rescue unit from the Meridian Fire Department and Metro Ambulance also responded to the scene.
