Retiree health fair set for today
The 3rd annual Retiree Information Health Fair is continues today until 2 p.m. at Union Station. Guests speakers will include representatives of Corrigan Travel Agency, Deputy Ward Calhoun and Dr. Arie Blitz, who will talk about cardiovascular disease. Screenings available include blood pressure, blood sugar level and stroke. There is a $2 fee which includes lunch and all screenings.
Library hosts children's show today
The Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library will host a children's comedy, magic and ventriloquism show today from 3 p.m.-4 p.m. for children ages 4-12. The show will be presented by Hal Arnold Entertainment. For information, call the library at 693-6771.
Boil water' alert canceled
Local officials have lifted a precautionary "boil water" alert for customers who get their drinking water from the Beulah Hubbard Water Association in Newton county. Tests performed by the Mississippi State Department of Health Laboratory indicated the water is safe to drink.
Livingston hosts blood drive
The Livingston community will host a blood drive Thursday, from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at the University of West Alabama Student Union Building. People with O-negative blood are encouraged to donate. Donors will receive a T-shirt and pizza coupons.
Bailey VFD holds fund-raiser
The Bailey Volunteer Fire Department is selling E-911 address signs for mailboxes to raise money for the station. The signs are 18 inches tall and 6 inches wide, with 3-inch numbers. They are reflective on both sides. The signs are $15 each.
To order call, the Bailey VFD on Tuesday nights between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at 737-4630, or fill out an application at Reid's Grocery on Highway 495.
Vimville VFD hosts tool sale
Vimville Fire Rescue Department will host a tool sale Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. The fire station is located next to Southeast Lauderdale High School. The sale will include hundreds of tools, and the proceeds will benefit the department. For information, call Clark Wilson at 917-6924 or 644-9846.
