Alison Davis, 19, of Meridian has been selected as the recipient of the Wilma G. Freeman Future Teacher Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
The $1,000 annual scholarship is funded through the MCC Foundation by Harry Freeman and Bebe Roberts Freeman of New Orleans as a memorial tribute to his mother. The Freemans are formerly of Meridian.
Davis is an elementary education major, and a graduate of Clarkdale Attendance Center.
Mechelle Cevdar, 30, of Quitman, is the 2001-2002 Mary Lee Roberts Future Teacher Scholarship recipient at Meridian Community College. Harry Freeman and Bebe Roberts Freeman of New Orleans fund the annual $1,000 scholarship through the MCC Foundation to honor her mother. Cevdar is a sophomore at MCC.
Richard Brennaman Jr., 24, of Meridian, will be the Rodney Walker Scholar his sophomore year at Meridian Community College. The $1,250 scholarship is funded annually by an endowment established by Tommy Dulaney of Meridian in honor of a former MCC teacher.
Brennaman is working on his associate's degree in drafting and design technology. He is a graduate of Enterprise High School.
Donald Ray Naylor Jr. of Meridian will appear in the 2001 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." He is a recent graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans and is the son of the Rev. Donald R. Naylor Sr. and Vivian B. Naylor.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Five students from Meridian have been included on the Dean's List for the spring 2001 semester at the University of Alabama: Stephanie Ruth, Lance Nicholas Covert, Kedrick Rashawn Crenshaw, Mary Joanne Crenshaw and Leslee Shelly Stewart. Dean's List students must be full-time students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Two area members of the Mississippi Federation of Teenage Republicans are attending the Republican National Teen Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., this week.
The federation's state chairman, James Harris, a junior at Quitman High School, and Blair Kynerd, a senior at West Laud-erdale High School, will participate in seminars, meet their legislators and visit the White House during the conference.
ANDERSON, Ind. Evonne J. Wheatley of Meridian received her bachelor's degree from Anderson University on May 12.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Brian Joseph Smith of Meridian has been named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at Samford University. Dean's List students must be enrolled full-time and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Smith is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Douglas Smith.
SAN ANTONIO Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Thomas C. Watson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base. A 2000 graduate of Kemper Academy in DeKalb, he is the son of Tona McDaniel of Meridian and Tommy Watson of Scooba.
