Hart adds another golf title

Lou Hart of Meridian continues to rack up the wins this summer on the state's links.
Hart teamed with Harriet Cauthen to win the Country Club of Jackson's Ladies Invitational last week with ease, thanks to a sizzling 64-61Q125.
Mississippi State women's golf coach Christi Sanders and Lou Garick of Laurel were second, 10 strokes back, with a 67-68Q135.
Third place went to Pam Posey of Meridian and Nell Bradford of Jackson with a 69-69Q138.
Bowen-McElhenney winners at Newton: East Central Community College men's basketball coach Jay Bowen and Randy McElhenney, also of Decatur, won the Newton Country Club Two-Person Scramble with a 65-61Q126.
Second place went to Dan Luke of Hickory and Jeremy Stevens of Decatur with a 62-67Q129.
Placing third with a 63-66Q129 was the team of Robert Blount and Jody Blount of Union.
Beware of Ivy: Joshua Ivy of Quitman shot a 74 at Laurel Country Club to win the Mississippi Junior Golf Association's final regular event of the year.
It was Ivy's fourth win of the season.
Clay Bounds of Meridian finished second with an 86.
Brok Hollingshead and John Everett, both of Meridian, shot 95 to tie for ninth place.
The final event for the MJGA is the state junior amateur championship.
Boys' Junior State Am at MSU: The 2001 Mississippi Golf Association Boys' State Junior Amateur is slated for July 31-Aug. 2 at the Mississippi State University Golf Course at Starkville.
All contestants are required to walk.
Ages 14-15 and 16-17 will play three 18-hole rounds. Entry fee for both groups is $35.
Ages 12-13 will play two 18-hole rounds. Entry fee is $35.
Ages 11-under will play two nine-hole rounds. Entry fee is $25.
Contestants may play up one age group if they so desire.

Newton Country Club will have its men's club championship this weekend.
The 2001 Men's Mid-Amateur Championship is set for Aug. 3-5 at Windance Country Club in Gulfport. Contestants must have reached their 25th birthday prior to the first day of the tournament. For more information, contact the Mississippi Golf Association at 601-939-1131.
Decatur Country Club will hold club championships for ladies, juniors, and seniors on Aug. 4-5 with the men's club championship on Aug. 11-12.
Dancing Rabbit Golf Course will play host to the U.S. Amateur Qualifier on Aug. 6-7 at the Azaleas course. For more information, contact Dancing Rabbit pro Mike Reynolds at 601-663-0011.
The 15th-annual Briarwood Country Club Mixed Scramble is on tap for Aug. 11-12. Entry fee is $150 per team which includes a practice round and mulligan, but not cart rental. The field is limited to the first 100 teams. For more information, contact Briarwood pro Rob McGraw at 601-681-6185.
The annual Philadelphia Country Club Four-Ball Tournament is slated for Aug. 17-19. For more information, contact PCC pro Michael Novorot at 601-656-8512.
