A Kemper County grand jury has declined to issue a felony indictment in the case of a two-car accident that resulted in the death of Donald Fox.
The collision occurred Oct. 14 on Highway 498, Kemper County officials said.
District Attorney Bilbo Mitchell said the grand jury recommended the case be sent to Justice Court for "any appropriate misdemeanor charges" traffic violations Sheriff Sam Tisdale feels are appropriate.
Mitchell said the grand jury spent from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the case last Tuesday and interviewed about 10 witnesses, including two people who were passengers in the other car.
Mitchell declined to release the other driver's name, and no one with the Kemper County Sheriff's Department could be reached to confirm whether misdemeanor charges have been filed in the case.
In other grand jury action, Romaro Dansby was indicted for aggravated assault in connection with a Dec. 13 shooting that left Robert Earl Byrd of Scooba with three gunshot wounds to the leg.
Dansby, who was 14 at the time, was charged as an adult. Both men are from Scooba. The shooting occurred in Piney Woods community about 5 miles north of Scooba on Old Highway 45, Tisdale said.
The grand jury heard a total of 26 cases, including two cases of lustful touching of a child, two aggravated assaults, a robbery, a burglary of a building, shooting into an occupied dwelling, two for possession of a firearm by a felon, grand larceny, motor vehicle theft, two for possession of stolen firearms as well as several drug-related and felony bad check cases.
