Reggie Richardson has been chosen head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Southeast Lauderdale.
He follows Larry Etheridge, who resigned following the 2000-2001 school year.
Richardson comes to Southeast from Jones Junior College where he has been a graduate assistant coach for the past two years under Bobby Glaze.
Richardson, a native of Stonewall, played baseball for Darrell Chancelor at Enterprise High School as a pitcher and middle infielder. He graduated from Enterprise in 1995.
Enterprise is on Richardson's schedule for the spring of 2002.
Southeast, only played 19 games this past spring as several contests got rained out. The Tigers, who finished 9-10, qualified for the Class 3A state playoffs where they lost 3-1 and 21-2 to South State runner-up Greene County in the opening round.
Following his graduation from Enterprise, Richardson started two years at second base at Jones. He then started two years at shortstop at William Carey College. He spent one season playing with the Jackson Diamond Kats of the Texas-Louisiana League.
Jones reached the Region 23 Division I Tournament at Meridian Community College for the first time in school history and finished third in the regional. The Bobcats, who went 28-24, gave MCC both of its losses in the regional.
Richardson recently married the former Blair Fee of Hattiesburg (on June 9).
He hopes to be coaching at Southeast for a while.
With his late hiring, Richardson was unable to coach the Tigers in any games this summer.
Richardson has spent some of his time trying to get the Tigers' baseball field ready for 2002.
