Mr. and Mrs. Thomas William Jordan of Brandon announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Jordan of Starkville, to John Wesley Cumberland of Starkville. He is the son of Linda Carol Flowers of Gulfport and Michael Floyd Cumberland of Meridian.
The wedding will be held Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Brandon.
Miss Jordan is the granddaughter of Dorothy Lackey Peden of Starkville and the late Dr. Guy Theron Peden Jr., formerly of Meridian, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Adrian Jordan of Yazoo City.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Woodland Hills Baptist Academy. She attended Mississippi College and the University of London. She plans to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.
Miss Jordan is currently attending Mississippi State University, where she is a member of Alpha Theta Chi, Gamma Beta Phi Society, the Golden Key National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi and the Pre-veterinary Medicine Club.
She is employed by Animal Medical Center in Starkville.
Mr. Cumberland is the grandson of Edna Sullivan Flowers of Jackson and the late John Wesley Flowers; Mary Henderson Cumberland of Meridian and the late Johnnie Floyd Cumberland.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Hillcrest Christian School and attended Hinds Community College. He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Mississippi State University.
Mr. Cumberland served in the United States Army Rangers. He is a member of the Police Benevolence Association, serving as political chair of the Tombigbee Chapter.
He is employed by the Starkville Police Department.
A reception will be held at Northpointe Barn in Jackson following the ceremony.
