Capt. Jeffrey K. Dickman will become Naval Air Station Meridian's 20th commanding officer Wednesday, succeeding Capt. William F. Carrico who served in that position for three years.
Dickman, a 23-year U.S. Navy veteran, formally will take over during a 10 a.m. change-of-command ceremony at NAS Meridian. More recently, Dickman served with the Navy in Washington.
At NAS Meridian, Dickman will manage a staff of 22 officers, 157 enlisted men and women and 258 civilian employees.
During Carrico's three years at the base, he has overseen several construction projects including base housing improvements, child development center improvements and a new commissary,
Also under his watch, more than 1 million uninterrupted flights took place at the base's two air fields. He received a Golden Anchor Award in 2000 and was named State of Mississippi Special Olympics "Sponsor of the Year" in 1999.
U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, whose 3rd Congressional District includes NAS Meridian, said that Carrico has been dedicated to Meridian and surrounding areas.
Pickering said that the captain's involvement with the Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics and other activities shows his dedication to the community.
Pickering said Carrico's leadership has been key in bringing T-45 aircraft to NAS Meridian. Pickering said the captain's "vision for building the base through new facilities and community outreach has led to a better quality of life for everyone at the base."
An hour before the change-of-command, NAS Meridian will receive its 53rd T-45 aircraft. At 9 a.m., Pickering will join other Naval officers to welcome the new aircraft to NAS Meridian.
