Meridian Babe Ruth 13-year-olds headed to World Series

The summer of great youth baseball continues for the Meridian area as the 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars advance in the Babe Ruth World Series. The All-Stars won a thrilling 7-6 contest over Jefferson Parish, La., to claim the Southwest Regional Tournament in Del Rio, Texas.
Tyler McMullen was named the tournament's MVP with a stellar 2-for-4 performance at the plate that included a home run and 2 RBI's. Corey Hart put in a stout pitching performance from the mound for the team while Ricky Gardner and Drew Snider came on in relief.
The Stars will now pack their bags for Wilson, North Carolina to compete in the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series. The tournament takes place August 18-25.
Snider chipped in at the plate going 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's, while Clark Bullock and Jay Stoddard had key hits in the final inning to help the Meridian All-Stars claim the victory.
10-year-olds fall short
The Meridian 10-year-old All-Stars fell to Glenn Allen 17-3 in the 16th contest of the Cal Ripken World Series.
Dallas Hannah, Jake Watkins and Dylan Harper produced Meridian's four hits. Glenn Allen used 13 hits on the night to claim the victory.
Meridian scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth. Glenn Allen scored 10 in the second, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Glenn Allen outhit Meridian 13-4. Meridian committed three errors.
