Newly selected Structural Steel Services Scholars at Meridian Community College for the fall and spring semesters are Leanne Jackson, Carissa Cardwell, Angie Null and Jennifer Smith.
The scholarships, which cover tuition and books, are funded through the MCC Foundation by an endowment established by Tommy Dulaney, president of Structural Steel Services Inc. The annual scholarships help family members of SSSI employees attend college.
Jackson is a returning SSSI Scholar. She is majoring in graphics communication technology and has made the MCC President's and Dean's Lists. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Art Students League. She serves as secretary of the Graphic Arts Association and works as a lifeguard for Meridian Parks and Recreation.
Cardwell is a second-year SSSI Scholar who is pursuing a degree in nursing through MCC's University Transfer Program. She works part-time at SSSI and is a Dean's List scholar.
Null is married and is the mother of a 7-year-old son. She is studying to become a registered nurse through MCC's Associate Degree Nursing Upgrade Program. She is a volunteer at the Meridian Community Living Center.
Smith is married with two children. A sophomore in the Radiologic Program, she works at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Tiffany McWilliams of Pulaski and Jana Walters of Laurel will each receive a $750 William D. Mobley Dental Hygiene Scholarship this year at Meridian Community College.
The annual scholarships are funded by an endowment established by the late Forrest Mobley of West Palm Beach in honor of his father, through the MCC Foundation.
Both recipients are sophomores in the dental hygiene program at MCC.
Leah Chancelor of Stonewall is beginning her sophomore year at Meridian Community College as the Mary Young Minniece Scholar for the 2001-2002 school year.
The $600 scholarship is funded through the MCC Foundation with an endowment established by the late Thomas Y. Minniece as a tribute to his mother.
Chancelor is the vice president of the Ivy League group at MCC. She is a member of the Future Teachers Association and Phi Theta Kappa. She is studying to become an elementary school teacher.
The Newly selected A.C. Johnson/Civitan Club Scholar at Meridian Community College is Dana Vance of Eupora.
The Civitan Clubs of Meridian provide the $650 scholarship from an endowment established to honor the memory of A.C. Johnson through the MCC Foundation.
A sophomore special education major, Vance plays on the college tennis team and is an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Baptist Student Union and Phi Theta Kappa.
Kenneth Hardy of Meridian is participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Mississippi State University. He is the son of Robert E. Hardy and the late Jeanne K. Hardy.
After completing his third work semester with East Mississippi EPA-Meridian, he will return to the Mississippi State campus to complete requirements toward a degree in electrical engineering.
