Meridian finishes 2nd in Series

After a long season of many wins the Meridian 10 year old's lose to Glenn Allen in the Cal Ripken World Series with a score of 12-2
Meridian scored 2 in the first inning, but the strong Glenn Allen defensive held them scoreless the rest of the game. Meridian standouts include Kenny Roberts and Trey Coker who each got 2 hits.
Will Roberts of Glenn Allen went 3-3 at the plate along with Beau Flinchum who went 3-4.
We congratulate Meridian for their prosperous year and award them for their accomplishments. We look forward to seeing the team in the future.
Northeast opens with two wins
PHILADELPHIA The Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans opened the season with wins over Philadelphia and Neshoba Central Friday night.
Northeast won the first game versus Philadelphia 11-1. Coach Chris Harper, in his first season as softball coach, said, "We didn't play real well, but we got the job done."
Blair Rawson (2-4) led the team from the mound while standouts included Lauren Webb who went 3-4, Jenniffer Bristow who went 2-3 with one double, and Amber Gray who went 2-3 with one double.
Also, April Harper went 3-4, Katie Bergin got two triples, Raleigh Odom had one triple, and Kara Hull had one double.
The second game of the night brought a 12-0 victory for the Lady Trojans over Neshoba Central.
Rawson, again, was the winning pitcher in a game that coach Harper says was played, "real well defensively with no errors."
Big time hitters included Webb (3-4, 1 double, 1 triple), Odom (3-4, 2 doubles), and Grace Ann Watkins (3-4, 2 doubles).
Also, Rawson( 3-4, 1 double), Bristow(2-4), Harper(2-4), Capri Norris(2-3), and Katie Bergin(1 triple).
The Lady Trojan's season opener will be at home Tuesday night at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. against Neshoba Central.

Tennis program starting up
It's time for the fall junior tennis program at North East Park. This year's programs include Dave's little stars, skill development, tournament training, and ladder league.
Dave's little stars program is for kids ages 4 to 7. It focuses on basic tennis skills and fun. Classes are from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at a cost of $5 per day.
The skill development program focuses on basic skills including strokes, grips, footwork, and strategy. The age range is from 2nd grade to 6th grade with groups divided by age and ability. Classes will be 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with an hour of organized play and a second hour of skill development. Cost is $10 a day or $45 a week with solo lessons available for $7 a day.
The next level is the tournament training program which is designed to provide intense drills fro the first hour and organized play for the second hour. There will also be a fall ladder league for juniors players of all ages. Matches will be scheduled at player's convenience. Contact Dave Trebisky at 483-3526 or 483-1288 to register
