Dr. Aubrey Lucas back at USM

Dr. Aubrey Lucas is a solid choice to head the University of Southern Mississippi, which makes one wonder why he "retired" in the first place. Maybe he was just burned out from the job. Even so, he will always be closely associated with the institution of higher learning where he made his mark.
From all indications, outgoing USM President Dr. Horace Fleming is leaving the scene having raised a lot of money for future programs at USM. The school will benefit from his tenure, too.
Lucas, hopefully, will be able to calm the fears of whatever little factions exist either at USM or on the state college board, the ones who were so vocally opposed to Fleming. Lucas undoubtedly already knows that the future of higher education in Mississippi is now. It is a time for all USM supporters to pull together.
