DECATUR Chair-back season tickets for Newton County High School's five home football games go on sale Wednesday 3:30 p.m. -5 p.m. at the high school office. Tickets are $60.
DECATUR East Central Community College in Decatur will offer a six-week course in September on cake decorating. The course will meet for two hours, one night a week.
Registration will be Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. in the Gold Room of Mabry Cafeteria. The class is limited to 15 students and the cost is $50.

Scholarship opportunities are available for individuals who are interested in enrolling in Meridian Community College's Construction Trades Program.
Howie Schiedel, program coordinator, said the MCC Foundation is sponsoring two full-tuition scholarships for students who want to enroll in the one-year, hands-on certificate program.
Students enrolled in the program will build a house while learning skills in carpentry, foundations, framing, roofing, exterior finishing and cabinet making.
The S.A. Rosenbaum Scholarships, are for $1,200 for the 2001-2002 academic year. For more information, contact Schiedel at 601-484-8803 or 1-800-MCC-THE-1.
OXFORD Damien Denvoel Gibbs of Lauderdale, a senior at Mississippi School of Math and Science, earned six hours of college credit this summer through the University of Mississippi Summer College for high school seniors.
Students selected from pre-professional and liberal arts programs participated by exploring possible college majors and career options while earning credit.
Gibbs attended the pre-health professions program, taking chemistry and a laboratory course.
OXFORD Ashley Brown, a student at Southeast Middle School, attended a four-week program this summer for rising eighth-graders. The -program was sponsored by the Lott Leadership Institute at the University of Mississippi.
The institute was named for Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott and was established in 1999. The program develops and enhances emerging leadership skills.
Students discussed and debated a wide range of topics, including health care and human cloning. Students were selected based on nominations from parochial, private and public schools.
STARKVILLE David Culpepper of Meridian is participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Mississippi State University.
Culpepper worked with Flexible Flyer Co. at West Point while working toward a degree in industrial engineering.
The cooperative education program gives students practical experience in their chosen field of study.
RAYMOND Ray Dearmon of Collinsville attended a two-week, advanced skills training course at Hinds Community College in shield metal arc welding for Illinois Central Railroad employees.
Employees requested the training, which will qualify them to carry out the welding component of bridge repair.
HCC's Resource and Coordinating Unit for Economic Development assisted with the initial consulting and contracting of the training.
SAVANNAH, Ga. Sarah Lynn Bonson of Philadelphia, graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design on June 2. Bonson received a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design.
TUSCALOOSA Lance Nicholas Covert, Thomas Vernell Hill and Karen Elizabeth Tatum, all of Meridian, were among the 1,100 degree recipients during summer commencement Aug. 11.
