Gentry-Tisdale lead by one at Briarwood tourney

Rex Gentry and Colton Tisdale grabbed a one-stroke lead Saturday in the first round of the Harry Lackey Labor Day Four-Ball Tournament at Briarwood Country Club.
Gentry and Tisdale had eight birdies and no bogeys in shooting their opening day 64. The leaders had birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, and 18.
One stroke off the lead is the team of George Polizzi and Billy McInnis with a 65. They had seven birdies and no bogeys. They birdied Nos. 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 17.
Tied for third place at 66 are the teams of Bobby Espey-Gene Hogan and Jason Walker-Dan Kerr.
Espey and Hogan had four birdies and an eagle. They birdied Nos. 4, 6, 7, and 15 and had an eagle on the par-5 No. 8.
Walker and Kerr had six birdies and no bogeys. They birdied Nos. 2, 4, 5, 10, 15, and 16.
Of the top four teams, all but Walker and Kerr played in the morning round before an early afternoon shower soaked the course.
Tied for fifth place at 67 are the teams of Benjy Baskin-Stan Fisher and Mike Culpepper-Ray Ethridge.
Baskin and Fisher had four birdies, an eagle, and a bogey. They birdied Nos. 4, 13, 15, and 18 and added an eagle on the par-5 No. 12. They suffered a bogey on No. 14.
Culpepper and Ethridge had five birdies and no bogeys. They birdied Nos. 3, 4, 10, 11, and 15.
At 68 is the team of Jack Combest and Willie Frazier.
Shooting first-round 69s are the teams of Joel Nelson-Chris Clark, Phillip Brooks-Bob Moore, David Rosenbaum Jr.-Johnny Boykin, Joey Mabry-Tony Polizzi, and Benji Carpenter-Jeremy Shelton.
Play resumes today and runs through Monday.
