Northeast hosts Meet the Teachers' night
Northeast Lauderdale High School will host a "Meet the Teachers" open house Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m., in the gymnasium. After a short welcome, parents will use their children's class schedules to guide them on a tour of the school, meeting teachers and asking questions along the way.
The Northeast High Booster Club will hold a short meeting after "Meet the Teachers." The 15-minute meeting will begin about 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Grant applications due Oct. 5
Applications for "Community Arts" grants awarded through the Meridian Council for the Arts are available at Meridian City Hall. Drop by the MCA offices on the third floor to pick up an application. The deadline to submit is Oct. 5.

Make-A-Wish meets in Meridian
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi will hold its monthly luncheon for Meridian volunteers Thursday at Rush Medical Group, 1800 12th St. The program will begin at 11:45 a.m. in the sixth-floor boardroom.
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi is a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

The Partnership for a Healthy Lauderdale County will begin a "Freedom from Smoking" clinic Thursday, at 5:30 p.m., at College Park Shopping Center. The session will be held in Suite 385. The format consists of seven, one-hour sessions. The cost is $40. For information, call 696-4472.
Friends hold benefit for kidney patient
A benefit gospel singing, featuring the "4 Praise Quartet" from Ethel, is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Smith Chapel Church of God of Prophecy.
The event is a fund-raiser for Richard L. Whitehead, who has had both of his kidneys removed. Whitehead has been out of work for six months and is currently waiting for a kidney transplant.
The church is on Highway 491, north of Collinsville. To donate to his medical expense fund, call Hazel Purvis at (601) 986-8501.
Saddle club to meet
The Bonita Lakes Saddle Club will meet Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. The AQHA Ride on Sept. 22-23 and the Fall Trail Ride scheduled for Nov. 3 will be discussed. Brother's Keeper to appear at mall
Brother's Keeper will be in concert at Bonita Lakes Mall on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The concert will be held on the vacant lot between Great Southern National Bank and O'Charley's Restaurant &Lounge. Admission is one canned food item, which will be donated to a local charity.
Alzheimer's Walk set for Oct. 6
The Alzheimer's Memory Walk is set for Oct. 6 at Bonita Lakes. Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m.; the walk is at 9 a.m. Participating counties include Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Smith. For information, call 483-4720 or 484-6180.
