Knights, Trojans eye 3-0 start

As surprising as it may be for area football fans to fathom, the winner of the Northeast Lauderdale-West Lauderdale football game Friday night at Northeast will be off to a 3-0 start to the 2001 campaign.
And it's been quite a while since either team opened a season with three straight wins.
Northeast's last winning season was in 1990 when the Trojans went 8-3. Since then, they've endured four one-win years and one winless season. From 1990-2000, the Trojans won 29 games while losing 89.
West hasn't finished over .500 since the 1986 Knights went 8-2. They've had two winless years and two one-win seasons since then. From 1990-2000, the Knights won 36 games and lost 84.
West's wounded include wide receiver Van Wilson (pulled leg muscle), fullback/linebacker Jared Parten (bone spur), running back Carlessio Blanks (neck), and lineman Jon Parker (heart).
West improved to 2-0 with a 33-12 win at Union last week after scoring the game's first 33 points.
Northeast upped its record to 2-0 with a 14-8 overtime victory over Southeast Lauderdale last week.
Stevens was impressed with what he's seen from the Knights on film.
Northeast also has a few players that have impressed Stevens through two games.
West won last year's meeting 19-14 to trim Northeast's series lead to 24-13-2.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
