West, Clarkdale get run-rule wins

West Lauderdale improved to 15-1 with an 18-3 Region 5-3A win at Carthage in Thursday's softball action.
Carthage led 3-0 after an inning.
West scored eight runs in the second inning and added seven more in the sixth to take control.
Courtney Godwin had two singles and a homer to lead West. Jo Havard went 3-for-4. Amy Frazier had two singles and a double. J.J. Huggins went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Jessica Ethridge and Kristina Gardner both had two hits.
Ethridge (15-1) was the winning pitcher.
West had 20 hits, while Carthage managed five.
West returns to action Monday against Northeast Lauderdale at 7 p.m. at Collinsville.
Clarkdale 14, Choctaw Central 3
Clarkdale padded a 2-0 lead with eight runs in the top of the fourth inning in beating the Lady Warriors at Choctaw Central.
Emily Howard was the winning pitcher in the contest.
Clarkdale, 7-7, was led at the plate by JorD'an Orr's 4-for-5 performance that included a double and three RBIs. Ashley Satcher went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Megan Potate, Brandi Limerick, Savanna Satcher, and Bethany Spidle each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Trisha Phillips had a double for Choctaw Central, 6-7.
Clarkdale's next game is Tuesday against Newton at Clarkdale. Next up for Choctaw Central is a game at Carthage on Monday.
Newton County 14, Philadelphia 5
Newton County pulled away from the Lady Tornadoes in the final two innings as they scored the Region 5-3A game's final eight runs.
Newton County led 6-5 after three innings. The Lady Cougars picked up a run in the top of the fifth, tallied four times in the sixth, and added three more runs in the seventh.
Newton County, 12-2, had 19 hits to nine for Philadelphia.
Winning pitcher Suzanne Chaney (12-2) had two singles and a double for Newton County. Kristin Chaney, Joy Cavenaugh, and Betsy Clark each had three singles. Dominique Mapp had two singles with Lorna Blackburn adding a double.
Philadelphia, 7-7, got a single and a double from Jhaun Sparnecht and a triple from Shenique Brass. Mandy Eakes was the losing pitcher.
Newton County's next game will be at Neshoba Central on Monday.
Union 9, Sebastopol 5
Union spotted Sebastopol a brief 5-4 lead before scoring twice in the bottom of the third in taking the region win.
Union, 9-1, scored four times in the bottom of the second inning only to have the Lady Bobcats get all five of their runs in the top of the third.
After taking a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the third, Union added two insurance runs in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Kelly Skinner had three singles for Union. Marley Smith had two singles, while Morgan Milling had a single, a double, and two RBIs. Amy Dolan had a triple and two RBIs and LaSaundra Harrison also had a triple.
Madison Brantley (8-1) was the winning pitcher with Lindsey Cassel picking up a save.
Union returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Edinburg.
Taylorsville 4, Enterprise 3
Taylorsville scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the region win at Taylorsville.
Enterprise scored twice in the top of the first inning but didn't score again until the top of the eighth.
Ashley Mathis, Ashton Smith, and Shonda Bester each went 2-for-4 for the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Ashton Shirley took the loss.
Enterprise returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Northeast Lauderdale at 1 p.m.
Taylorsville improved to 7-8 and 1-1.
New Hope 6, Neshoba Central 1
New Hope scored three times in both the first and fourth innings in beating Neshoba Central at NCHS.
The Lady Rockets, 8-9, got their lone run in the bottom of the fifth as Lee Smith doubled and pinch runner Keisha Buckley scored on a single from Dacie Brantley.
Kadye Chandler had a pair of singles to lead the Lady Rockets, who had five hits.
Neshoba Central hosts Newton County on Monday.
