Meridian police Saturday captured a suspect in the armed robbery of a local package store, but are withholding his name pending the filing of formal charges.
Police responded to an emergency call from The Package Store on 45th Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. The suspect was described as an armed black male, wearing a white t-shirt, khaki pants, tennis shoes and a red ski mask.
The suspect allegedly walked into the business, demanded money and fled on foot.
Within minutes of the robbery, detectives approached a man fitting the description of the suspect a few blocks from the scene. The suspect attempted to elude police, but was caught.
Police recovered money and a handgun that may have been used in the robbery, according to MPD spokesman Lt. Wade Johnson.
