Winston downs Leake

First year head coach Steve Kelly led the Winston Academy Patriots to a 38-12 victory over Leake Saturday night.
The Leake Academy Rebels cracked the scoreboard first with a six yard touchdown rush from Allen Byrd. The following two point conversion shot was no good leaving the score at 6-0.
Winston Academy finally got on the board in the second quarter with a 23 yard touchdown pass from Jay McMillin to Caleb Metts. A McMillin PAT was good as the Patriots took a 7-6 lead.
The Patriots scored again in the third quarter with a 43 yard rush from Scott Peterson followed by a successful PAT.
McMillin kicked a 25 yard field goal later in the quarter making the score 17-6.
Leake came out in the fourth quarter with a three yard touchdown rush from Byrd followed by an unsuccesful PAT leaving the score at 17-12.
This was the last time the Rebels got in the endzone as the Patriots turned up the heat.
It began with a 24 yard touchdown rush from Metts followed by a good PAT. Next came a six yard scoring run from McMillin followed by another good PAT.
The Patriots last score came from a 28 yard touchdown rush from Peterson followed by a McMillin PAT leaving the final score at 38-12.
Winston had 202 rushing yards led by Peterson with 11 carries for 128 yards and two scores.
McMillin completed six out of 12 passes for 116 yards and one score. Leading receiver for the Patriots was Metts with sixty yards and one touchdown.
Winston Academy heads to Benton next week for their district opener while Leake hosts East Rankin in their district opener.

In other games Saturday night the Wayne Academy Jaguars led by head coach Tom Boszor took a 19-6 victory over Tri County.
Next week Wayne Academy will travel to Newton Academy for their district opener.
