First Christian Church was the setting for the Saturday, June 9, 2001, wedding of Aubrye Michelle Williams of Meridian and Robert Allen Mayfield Jr. of Clinton. The Revs. Dr. Lester D. Palmer and Larry B. Metzger officiated.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lee Williams of Meridian and Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Mayfield Sr. of Natchez.
Grandparents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Julian V. "Barney" Purvis, Martha Williams and the late Richard G. Williams Jr., all of Meridian.
Grandparents of the bridegroom are Mrs. William Boyd Holley of Shreveport, La., and the late Mr. Holley.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Mississippi College Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Richard Joiner; Sandra Lynn Noyes and Dr. Manley E. Blackwell, organists; Sara Elizabeth Melton, flutist; and John W. Brown, vocalist.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of candlelight matte bridal satin featuring a jewel neckline with heavily beaded bodice of bugle beads and seed pearls which flowed into a cathedral-length detachable train. The three tiered veil, designed and made by the bride's mother, was made of English net and fell from a comb covered in pearls taken from jewelry worn by all four of her great-grandmothers. She carried a bouquet, designed and made by her maternal grandmother, of cream Virginia roses.
Angela Marie Williams of Meridian attended her sister as maid of honor. Other attendants were Christina Herring Lundeen of Birmingham, Ala., Laura Beth Morgan of Cordova, Tenn. and Emily Regenia Roebuck of Meridian.
The father of the bridegroom served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were Richard Lee Williams II of Meridian, brother of the bride, Jonathan Charles Taggart of West Point and David Mark Sellers of Huntsville, Ala.
Cross bearer was Lea Davis McCracken. Torch bearers were Steven Carl Landrum Jr. and Joshua Alan Landrum, both cousins of the bride. Lectors were Holly Mayfield Abel and Jennifer Mayfield Smith, both sisters of the bridegroom.
Program and bird seed bag attendants were Anna and Caleb Landrum, Claire Vickers and Matthew Purvis, all cousins of the bride; Ivy Abel, Walker Abel and Katherine Smith, nieces and nephew of the bridegroom. Registry book attendant was Rachel Leigh Busler.
A reception was held at Union Station following the ceremony. Assisting were Diane Toms, Barbara Williams, Jennifer Leigh Fitch, Elaine Edwards Berry, Rachel Leigh Busler, Lea Davis McCracken, Rebecca Roebeck, Margie Lunsford and Sara Elizabeth Melton.
After a honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean, the couple resides in Clinton.
