Lady Knights blank Choctaw

PHILADELPHIA n Hailey Scarborough went 4-for-4 and scored four runs to lead West Lauderdale to a 12-0 Division 5-3A win at Choctaw Central Tuesday night.
The win sets up a showdown for the Division 5-3A title Thursday night at Newton County. Newton County, ranked No. 3 in the state, improved to 22-3 overall and 8-1 in 5-3A with a 19-2 league win at Carthage on Monday.
West, ranked No. 5 in the state, improved to 28-3 overall and 9-0 in 5-3A with Tuesday's win. Choctaw Central fell to 8-14 and 5-5 in the division.
The Lady Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Scarborough singled and scored on a double by Amy Frazier. Frazier then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kristina Gardner.
West added four runs in the top of the third with two scoring on a single by Gardner and two more coming home on a double to left-center by Amber Joyner.
The Lady Knights took an 8-0 lead in the fourth. J.J. Huggins jacked a one-out solo homer over the fence down the left-field line with Scarborough following with a double. Scarborough scored on a fielder's choice by Jo Havard.
The Lady Knights got their final four runs in the sixth inning. Scarborough slapped a two-out line drive single off the third baseman's glove to start the uprising. Frazier followed with a double. Both runners came home on a single by Havard. Gardner reached on an error to give West an 11-0 lead. The final run scored on a single by winning pitcher Jessica Ethridge.
Choctaw Central got a single apiece from Natisha Isaac, Nora Wilson, Chantay Frazier, Bonnie Ben, and Trisha Phillips. Jenna Tubby took the loss.
The Lady Warriors host Southeast Lauderdale Thursday at 7 p.m.
