Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center celebrates 15 years of heart surgery

Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center will celebrate its cardiovascular surgery program's 15th anniversary on Monday.
On Oct. 8, 1986, Roy Carter, of Philadelphia, was the first heart surgery patient at the hospital and he will be there again Monday to blow out the candles on the cake during the celebration.
The hospital will host a "Lunch and Learn" program for the public in its ground floor auditorium, featuring Dr. Dale Touchstone, cardiologist with Meridian Medical Associates, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Touchstone will discuss advances in the treatment of heart disease and will be available to answer questions from the public. Immediately following the program, there will be a celebration in the hospital courtyard, weather permitting.

Other October events at Anderson
Sky Joiner, registered dietitian, will hold "Heart Healthy Cooking Classes" on Oct. 8, 15 and 29 at the hospital. The classes are free to the public. For more information, or to register, call 553-6184.

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m., ground floor auditorium "Hereditary Breast Cancer," featuring guest speaker Courtney E. Rowell, genetic counselor/account executive with Myrid Genetic Laboratories.
Tuesday, Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m., ground floor auditorium "Understanding
Breast Cancer," featuring guest speaker Pat Reymann, registered nurse and oncology consultant.
