Although billed as a "rain or shine" event, Saturday's regional marching band festival at Meridian High School was postponed because of heavy weather.
Rick Burton, president of Meridian High Band Boosters, said contests in Meridian, Tupelo and Gulfport were called off because of tornado watches and rain throughout the state. Many of the bands would have had to travel several hours to and from their competitions.
Thirty bands were scheduled to perform Saturday at Ray Stadium, during the Mississippi High School Activities Association Region 3 Marching Band Festival.
Other host sites for today's competitions were Greenwood and Pearl.
