Dr. and Mrs. A.P. Carney III of Meridian announce the engagement of their daughter, Virginia Clair, to Charles Kennon "Ken" Nelson Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles K. Nelson of Greenville.
The wedding will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at 4 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church.
Dr. Carney is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. G.A. Rush Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Carney Jr., all of Meridian.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School and received a bachelor's degree in pre-med and biology from Mississippi State University.
While attending MSU, she was a member of the Dormitory Council and a volunteer for the local humane society.
Dr. Carney is employed by Rush Medical Group in the OB/GYN department.
Mr. Nelson is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson and the late Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Herbert.
The bridegroom-elect attended Washington High School and received a bachelor's degree in agriculture business and a master's degree in agricultural management from Mississippi State University.
While attending MSU, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and served as the Mississippi State football manager.
Mr. Nelson is employed as a pharmaceutical representative with Jansen Pharmaceuticals.
A reception will be held at the home of the bride's parents following the ceremony.
