Sumter Academy wins AISA volleyball crown

MONTGOMERY, Ala. Sumter Academy won its third Alabama Independent School Association volleyball title on Saturday at Huntington College.
Sumter Academy, seeded No. 4 in the four-team tournament, won all three of its matches.
In the championship final, Sumter defeated Southern Academy 15-13 and 15-10. It marked only the second match win for Sumter over Southern Academy who won the area and sub-state playoff.
J.J. Cook led Sumter with 26 assists, seven digs and four aces. Crystal Hester had three kills, eight digs and one ace. Erica Hester had six kills and four aces. Jace Chambliss had six aces.
To reach the finals, Sumter beat Southern Academy 15-0, 15-10. Cook had 30 assists, three digs and five aces.
In the opener, Sumter beat No. 1 seed Calvary Christian 4-15, 15-5, 15-6. Cook had 36 assists, seven aces and six digs. Erica Hester had eight kills, two assists, 11 digs and four aces. Brenda Tanner had eight kills, three assists, four digs and three aces while Stephanie Ray had five kills and seven digs. Sumter finished its season with a 20-9 record.
