Meridian Community College sophomore Amanda Rickles is continuing her study of music and voice as the Harry and Vivian Boureau Family Scholar for the fall and spring semesters.
The $1,000 scholarship is funded through The MCC Foundation by an endowment established to assist music students by the late Mrs. Boureau of Meridian.
Rickles is a graduate of West Lauderdale High School. She sings in the MCC Chorus and is a dean's list student.
Meridian Community College sophomore Tiffany Burroughs of Louisville is the college's newest Bailey Scholar.
The C.B. Bailey Scholarship Endowment, established by BankPlus as a tribute to the late Mr. Bailey, funds two $1,000 scholarships annually through The MCC Foundation.
Burroughs is scheduled to graduate from the two-year Health Information Technology Program in May. She is active in Phi Theta Kappa, the Health Occupations Students Association and the Health Information Technology Association.
Meridian Community College sophomore Lindsey Gunn of Enterprise is the recipient of the Dr. Lemann H. and Wilma S. Bounds Scholarship.
Gunn will use the $1,200 scholarship, funded by an endowment established by the Boundses through The MCC Foundation, to cover all of her tuition for the fall and spring semesters.
Gunn was valedictorian of her high school class. She is a dean's list student in the Radiologic Technology Program at the college and a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
Omicron Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has awarded scholarships to 10 graduating seniors of Lauderdale and surrounding counties in East Mississippi.
Since its chartering in 1983, the chapter has given more than $80,000 is scholarships to graduating seniors in East Mississippi and West Alabama.
The 2001 scholarship recipients are:
Meridian High School graduates Brittney Chisolm, Rowena Baylor and Charlotte Johnson, all attending Meridian Community College; Natasha McCoy and Teneshia Acklin, both attending Tennessee State University; and Gabrielle Jones, attending the University of Southern Mississippi.
Heidelberg High School graduates Kimberly Davis, attending Rust College, and Shemecia Forthner, who plans to attend Alcorn State University next semester.
West Lauderdale High School graduate Shannon Smith, attending the University of Mississippi.
Enterprise High School graduate Jerra Cook, attending Meridian Community College.
DECATUR Whitney Owen and Hastings Westbrook, both members of Boy Scouts Troop 46 and students at Newton County High School, will participate in an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at 2 p.m. Sunday at Decatur United Methodist Church.
A reception will be in Pennington Fellowship Hall following the ceremony.
Owen is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Billy N. Owen. Westbrook is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Westbrook. Scoutmasters are Olin and Janet Thomas.
HATTIESBURG Kelly Williams, a freshman psychology major from Chunky, is a new member of the Eta Zeta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Williams is a graduate of Newton County High School.
