For the past four weeks, Newton and Scott Central have been beating up on the rest of the Region 5-2A teams. This Friday, they'll settle which of the two is the league's best team in 2001.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Scott Central.
They're real good. Defensively, they haven't allowed a point in any region game this year," Peterson said.
Sophomore running back Travaone Evans had 170 yards on 14 carries in the Tigers' 43-12 win at Kemper County last week. He's picked up 769 yards on 76 carries this fall, better than 10 yards per carry.
Newton is 7-2 overall with losses to unbeaten Newton County and Ackerman, 8-1.
Scott Central upped its record to 5-4 with a 27-0 win at Clarkdale last week.
Both teams have had a relatively easy time in going 4-0 against the rest of the league.
Heidelberg at Newton County
The Cougars can close out a perfect regular season when they host the Oilers Friday at Decatur.
Region 5-3A champion Newton County enters the contest with a 9-0 mark after last week's 32-15 win at Philadelphia.
Heidelberg dropped a 27-26 overtime decision to Choctaw Central last week to fall to 2-7.
Darryl Mapp ran for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries in the Cougars' win at Philadelphia. Kendrick Windham added 97 yards on 16 rushes.
Surprisingly, Heidelberg holds a 6-0 lead in the series. The last meeting produced a 42-22 Oiler victory in 1996.
Philadelphia at Florence
The Tornadoes, the No. 2 team from Region 5-3A, tune up for next week's playoffs with the non-region road contest.
Quarterback Tyler Threadgill led Philadelphia, 6-3, in last week's loss to Newton County with 101 yards on 13 carries.
Florence has already played several area teams this fall, losing to West Lauderdale (30-21) and Quitman (27-0), while beating Forest (31-7) and Northeast Lauderdale (16-8).
The Class 4A Eagles are 5-4 after last week's 10-7 loss to West Jones. Florence went 11-2 last fall.
Kemper Academy at Central
Kemper Academy currently stands at 2-7 for the season with a season opener win and a 28-14 win last week over Newton County Academy.
They will hit the road Friday night to finish up their season at Macon Central.
Central will surely be gunning for Kemper Academy looking to repay them for the 33-7 defeat last year.
Kemper County at South Leake
Coming off an 0-10 season, Kemper County has started to rebuild their football tradition.
A 37-14 win three weeks ago over William Sullivan broke their two-year losing streak.
The following week Kemper County began a winning streak with a 34-19 win over Clarkdale.
Pisgah at Union
The Yellow Jackets can clinch their first-ever playoff berth when they host the Dragons.
Union upped its overall record to 5-4 under first-year head coach Brad Breland with a 41-0 blanking of Nanih Waiya last week. Pisgah is 2-6.
Tony Warren and Lee Warren led Union's defense in the shutout of Nanih Waiya with seven tackles apiece.
In other games involving North area teams, Winston Academy (7-2) hosts Simpson Academy (8-1), Noxapater (2-7) hosts Sebastopol (5-4), Noxubee County (8-1) is at West Point (4-5), Newton County Academy (0-9) hosts Sylva-Bay (6-3), Neshoba Central (2-7) is at New Hope (3-5), Nanih Waiya (6-3) hosts Thomastown (0-9), Leake Academy (3-6) goes to Canton Academy (7-1), Lake (5-4) hosts Puckett (8-0), Choctaw Central (4-5) hosts Southeast Lauderdale (3-5), Louisville (5-4) hosts Kosciusko (6-3) for second place in Region 2-4A.
Finally, Forest (3-6) hosts Morton (4-5) in the annual Battle for the Golden Chicken.
