SCOOBA The East Mississippi Community College Lions will start their 2001 campaign Monday, as they tip off against the 1-0 Eagles of Meridian Community College.
The Lions will be under the direction of first-year head coach Clay Armstrong. He had to take the reigns after the sudden death of long-time coach Steve Hull earlier this fall.
Armstrong served as an assistant under Hull in the 2000-2001 campaign.
The Lions beat the Eagles in Meridian last year, and at Scooba also, so this makes for a great opener for the Lions.
The Lions will look to some big-time sophomores this year for some leadership in the loss of Hull.
The Lions also look to some freshmen to come in and hold their end of the deal as well.
Former Northeast Lauderdale standout Jimmy Kelly, starts his career Monday night as a Lion in his hometown of Meridian. "Jimmy has shown some things in practice that I feel our team is sure to use," Armstrong said.
While EMCC may not have the size, speed and skills of some other teams, but says he is pleased with mix he sees on the floor.
