Science teachers honored at state convention

Four West Lauderdale teachers brought state awards home recently from the Mississippi Science Teachers Association Convention.
The convention was Oct. 18 and 19 at the Isle of Capri Hotel in Biloxi.
Jean Herrington, a third-grade teacher at West Lauderdale Elementary, received the Outstanding Elementary Science Teacher Award; Bernard Lewis, a sixth-grade teacher at West Lauderdale Middle School, received the Outstanding Middle School Science Teacher Award; and Faye Kinard, physical science, chemistry and physics teacher at West Lauderdale High School, won the Outstanding High School Science Teacher Award.
Nettie Mayatt received the Presidential Award in Mathematics and Science Teaching from the state Department of Education. The award is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Mayatt teaches Biology II, anatomy and physiology at West Lauderdale High School.
