An improvement in attitude and work ethic has third-year Meridian Community men's basketball coach George Brooks feeling good about his team's chances this season.
Brooks is counting on sophomores Joey Wade, Robert Ivy, Sammie Cole and Derrick Houston as the team's leaders.
While MCC pumped in triple figures in its season-opening 100-83 win over Coahoma Community College on Thursday, Brooks said his team will focus on defense.
Cole and Ivy will play the two-guard and small forward spots for the eagles, while Houston (6-5) can play either forward sport.
Newton County High School graduate Victor Temple is being looked at the handle the point guard duties for the Eagles, while Korey Moore of Jackson Jim Hill will also see some time.
Michael Monroe, a 6-foot-6 freshman from North Little Rock, Ark., provides the Eagles with a pure shooter.
Tommie Miller a 6-foot-7 sophomore from Delhi, La., is a transfer from Angelina (Texas) College.
Brooks is also looking for help from Ricardo kelly on the boards.
He is also looking for help at out 6-foot-4 forward Justin Turner of Van Cleave.
The Eagles, who went to the NJCAA National Tournament three seasons ago, were 8-21 last year.
