MHS soccer girls win

The Lady Wildcats of Meridian High School used three goals from Kelly Brown and one each from Leanna Baldner, Catherine Bryan, Kortney Harris and Dana Duckworth to roll to a 7-2 win over homestanding Starkville High School on Tuesday night.
Sarah Denham had five saves in goal for MHS, while Catherine Brian had two assists and Kirsten Gambrell added another.
In all MHS had 14 shots on goal. The Lady Wildcats return to action Saturday, when they host Pearl at the Jaycees Complex at noon.
Northeast Boys 12,
Newton County 0
The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans defeated Newton County 12-0 in soccer action on Tuesday.
Newton County never even got a shot at the goal.
Scoring goals for the Trojans were: Jorge Corrals 3 goals and one assist; Chad Branson 2 goals and one assist; Ryan Sweet 2 goals and one assist; Paul Tate 3 goals and one assist; Cody Abrams 1 goal; Coleman Hobgood 1 goal; Matt Moore 3 assist.
Northeast got defensive help from Chris Stevens, J.R. Smith and Travis Huntley.
Northeast Girls 6,
Newton County 0
Danielle Smith scored four goals to lead Northeast Lauderdale to a 6-0 lead. Katie Bergin hit on a 25-yard curving goal and Ivey Rawson added another goal.
Starkville Boys 5,
Meridian 1
The Meridian boys lost to Starkville 5-1. No results were reported to The Meridian Star. The MHS boys visit Wayne County on Thursday, before hosting Pearl at 2 p.m. at the Jaycees complex on Saturday.
