Kalen B. Bosarge of Collinsville is among 17 students named communication department scholars for the 2001-2002 school year at Mississippi State University.
A junior public relations major and President's Scholar, Bosarge receives a $700 Turner Catledge Scholarship, a memorial by the New York Times to a 1922 MSU graduate who became the newspaper's executive editor.
Bosarge is a 1999 graduate of West Lauderdale High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hancock and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Bosarge. She is a member of the Alpha Theta Chi and Gamma Beta Phi honor societies and the Public Relations Student Society of America.
Meridian High School graduate Stacey Douglas has been named an Advanced Placement Scholar by the College Board, based on her performance on AP exams taken in May.
Douglas, who attends Millsaps College in Jackson, is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Douglas.
Most colleges award credit or advanced placement based on successful performance on the AP exam. About 13 percent of the more than 840,000 students who took the exam this year were named AP Scholars.
The following students are listed on the Poplar Springs Elementary honor roll for the first nine weeks of school:
