West Alabama closes out season with loss
FLORENCE, AL The University of West Alabama football team closed the 2001 season with a trip to instate rival North Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The Lions would take advantage of two first half Tiger miscues, en route to building a 14-0 halftime lead, while going on to defeat UWA 30-0.
UNA rolled up 340 yards of total offense (183 rushing and 157 passing). Randy Vickers led a balanced ground attack, rushing for 58 yards on 14 carries. Qualls added 38 yards on seven carries, including one score. Warren completed 7-of-12 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lion air attack, before being removed late in the game in favor of backup Antonio Gray.
Presley Gilmore turned in his biggest game since early in the season for UWA, rushing for 98 yards on 22 carries.
The Tigers fell to 1-10 overall and 0-9 in GSC play. Also, eight Tiger seniors completed their careers at UWA, and head coach Bill Hyde completed his stint at UNA with an overall record of 20-21.
Jones Junior College visits EMCC
SCOOBA The East Mississippi Community College men's and women's basketball teams will play host to Jones Junior College in a doubleheader today.
The women's game is set to tip off at 6 p.m., with the men's game set for 8 p.m.
The EMCC women's game against Bevill State set for No.v 6 has been moved to Nov. 29.
