PHILADELPHIA The Choctaw Central Warriors and the Heidelberg Oilers split a pair of games here Tuesday night with Choctaw Central taking the girls game by a score of 82-66 and Heidelberg winning the boys contest 60-51.
The Oilers looked as if they were going to put the boys game away early by jumping out to a 20-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
But the Warriors battled back to tie the game at 40 with six minutes left to play in the game.
Heidelberg led by two points at 49-47 when Marvin McDonald nailed a three-point shot and Derrick Turner slammed home a dunk as the clock moved inside a minute to play to put the Oilers up 54-47 and seal the victory.
Choctaw Central grabbed the quick lead on a three-point shot but Heidelberg went on a 12-point run as they seemed to be ready to dominate in the game.
Both teams added six points in the remainder of the period before the Warriors began to battle their way back into the contest with an 9-6 advantage in the second quarter and outscoring the Oilers 18-11 in the third quarter to pull within three at 39-36 heading into the final quarter.
The game remained close until the final minute of play when the Oilers were able to seal the victory to advance to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in division play.
The Warriors fell to 2-1 and 0-1 in the division opener for both schools.
Turner led the Oilers with 14 points. Jessie Jones added 13 and McDonald had 11.
For the Warriors, Tyler Williamson led the way with 17 points and Braden Sam had 12.

The Lady Oilers took at 16-10 lead after one quarter in the girls' game before the Lady Warriors exploded on offense in the second quarter to take a 42-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Warriors used a spirited press to grab the first eight points in the second quarter, then slowly pulled away through the last half of the quarter.
Deandrea Johnson, who led all scorers with 22 points, Trish Phillips with 16 and Shavon Willis with 14 provided much of the offensive punch for the Lady Warriors in the second period to spark the offensive run.
The two teams played an even ball game in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 18 points, before the Lady Warriors went on another offense spurt in the fourth quarter with Chantay Frazier scoring six of her 16 points in the final quarter.
The Lady Oilers were led in the contest by Jessica Yates with 18 points with Princess Bender adding 17, Latoya Walker 16 and Catina Fowler coming off the bench with 11 points.
Choctaw Central, 3-1 overall and 1-0 in division play, will be back in action Friday against Forest.
Heidelberg, 1-2 and 0-1, was originally scheduled to play Philadelphia Friday, but that game has been postponed because of the high school football playoffs and will instead be next on the court Monday against Meridian.
