Meridian wins St. Catharine Classic
The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles won the St. Catharine Classic in St. Catharine, Ky. on Saturday night.
MCC defeated Rone College, Ga., 89-83 in the finals.
The Lady Eagles got a game high 28 points from Genice Terry and 21 from Cantea Brown to improve their record to 5-0 on the season.
Eva Lockhart had 10 points and Monique Horner passed out 12 assists.
Meridian will return to action on Tuesday when they host Wallace-Selma at the Ivy Sports Center.
Laurel splits with Quitman
The Laurel Lady Tornadoes handed Quitman a 73-60 loss on Saturday night.
The loss drops Quitman to 1-4 on the season. The Lady Panthers were led by Shaquilla Mack with 19 points.
Laurel was paced by Sharia Gully with 22 points.
The Panthers bounced back to take the boys game from Laurel 67-60. Jason Pearson tossed in 21 points to lead Quitman who improved to 2-1 on the season.
Both Quitman teams return to action with its own Quitman Tournament set for Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Lady Oilers hand Wayne County first loss
Wayne County and Heidelberg split a pair of basketball games on Saturday. The Lady Oilers handed Wayne County's girls their first loss of the year in a 57-37 decision.
Heidelberg was led by Princess Bender with 10 points. Wayne, now 5-1, got a game high 24 points from Natalie Jordan.
Wayne County came back to take the boys game 67-54. The win moves the War Eagles to 2-0 on the season.
John Gray tossed in a game high 24 points to lead the War Eagles.
