The Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale had only one thing in their mind before their game with Northeast Lauderdale and that was nothing but an upset. Clarkdale almost got their wish, but the Lady Trojans escaped with a four point over the much improved Lady Bulldogs. "You have got to give Clarkdale a lot credit because they played up and down the floor with us," said Northeast Lauderdale head coach Dan Stegall. "We had a bad night shooting and that didn't help and we didn't play great defense like we expect to do," Stegall added.
The poor night of shooting hit both teams in the very first period of action, but the Lady Bulldogs did hold a 12-11 advantage at the end of the opening quarter. Clarkdale was led the quarter by Felicia Kirksey who paced the lady Bulldogs with six points. The Lady Trojans started to get things on track and took one of their very few leads of the half on a basket by Quin Jackson with 6:08 left until halftime with Northeast on top 13-12.
Northeast extened their lead moments later on free throws and a basket by Crystal Hopson to give the Lady Trojans a 16-12 with 4:21 left in the second quarter. Clarkdale got back in the game behind a couple of points from Tamara Brown to tie the game 17-17. Norhteast got a bucket good from Sha Londa Jackson to put Northeast ahead 20-17 at the halftime break. The Lady Trojans came out on fire offensivley and score three consecutive times to take their biggest lead at 27-19 with 3:11 left in the third quarter. Clarkdale came right back on a pair of baskets to trim the Northeast lead to 31-24 at the end of the third.
Despite a great fourth quarter comeback by Clarkdale the Lady Trojans took the win 39-34 and improve to 3-3 on the year. Jackson led the Lady Trojans with 15 points followed by 13 points from Shaquita Bell. Brown had a big night for Clarkdale with 18 points and Danielle Gaddis chipped in with seven in the loss for Clarkdale.
