The 6th Annual Cellular South Holiday Extravaganza could be the place to find that perfect gift.
Opening tonight at the Frank Cochran Center in Highland Park, the three-day event is designed to provide a unique shopping experience.
Preferred shopping will be from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. tonight, featuring hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and music by the Carey Smith Trio. Admission is $7.
General shopping is from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and from noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 both days.
Merchants from all over the Southeast will display items for the holiday season.
Booths will feature Beanie Babies, women's and children's clothing, cosmetics, pewter-finished ware, jewelry and stained glass items.
A water color artist also will have works on display. Other booths will include baby nursery items and a variety of candles.
Children can visit Santa in his workshop while mom and dad shop. They can have their photo taken with Santa and decorate a frame for their picture.
A food vendor also will be on hand selling drinks, hamburgers, nachos and barbecue sandwiches.
The event is the major fund-raiser for the Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club.
A large part of the proceeds will benefit the Civitan International Research Center and several area organizations.
Local charities benefiting include: Hope Village for Children, United Way, Peavey House, Hilltop Home for Boys and Girls, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Mississippi Industry for the Developmentally DisabledMeridian branch, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Victory Outreach, LOVE's Kitchen, Wesley House and Care Lodge.
Chartered in 1980, the Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club meets for lunch every second and fourth Monday of the month to plan service projects, listen to speakers and enjoy fellowship with other members.
