The Meridian High School boys soccer team got its first win of the year over a good Northeast Lauderdale team Tuesday night by a score of 4-0. The Lady Wildcats upped their record to 5-1 with a close 2-1 victory over the Lady Trojans.

The Meridian Wildcats have been searching for a win all season and they finally found it on a cold Tuesday night.
Meridian had 16 shots at the goal resulting in four goals. The first of the Meridian scores came with 15 minutes remaining to play in the first half.
David Mowdy made a very nice assist to Blake Remy who punched it in. Trojan Chris Stevens made several threats towards the goal, but was stopped short by the Wildcat defense.
Meridian found the goal again with less than one minute remaining in the first half.
Keith Ivy made a beautiful inbound pass to Jammal Smith who put it away with a head shot. The half ended with Meridian up 2-0.
Ivy found Smith for the second time of the game only two minutes deep into the second half. The Smith-Ivy combination put the Wildcats ahead 3-0.
Meridian's Leslie Rush threatened several times in the half. Rush got his score with 15:43 remaining to play on a penalty kick.
The Trojans threatened to score in the half only to be stopped by the defense of the Wildcats.
The 1-5 Wildcats will play host to Brandon Tuesday at Ray Stadium. The 1-2 Trojans will have their next game on the road against Clarkdale.

The 4-1 Lady Wildcats slipped past a 3-1-1 Northeast Lauderdale team 2-1. Meridian found the goal after only six minutes of play.
Catherine Bryan made a very nice assist to Kortney Harris, putting Meridian on the board.
Northeast Lauderdale answered with 5:06 reaming in the half. Danielle Smith punched the ball in making the score 1-1 going into the half.
With less than three minutes having been played in the second half, Meridian scored again. Lady Wildcat Leanna Baldner assisted Bryan for the final goal of the game, taking the Wildcat lead to 2-1.
The Wildcats faced a strong Northeast defense in the second half lead by Smith.
Time expired before the Trojans could put more points on the board.
Meridian had 20 shots on goal.
