DECATUR If someone had granted Newton County head football coach Jeff Breland every wish he wanted back on Dec. 31, 2000, he couldn't be much better off than the way things have worked out for his Cougars this fall.
During the summer months, Breland and his team saw the work being done on their new football stadium.
The Cougars christened the stadium with a 21-7 win over arch-rival Newton on Sept. 7 and haven't looked back in going 12-0 heading into tonight's Class 3A state playoff game with 10-2 Collins. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.
It certainly wouldn't be more fan support as the Cougar faithful already know their role and carry it out to the highest notch.
The Cougars went on to beat the Knights 40-10 last week. West had racked up 55 points the previous week.
That's something that's happened a lot at Newton County this fall as the Lady Cougars' slow-pitch softball team went 34-3 in winning the Class 3A state championship in mid-October.
