The 21st edition of the Mississippi State Seniors Bowling Tournament will be making its home here in Meridian the next two weekends. Over 100 bowlers will be vying for the winners' trophy in five separate age categories as they seek the opportunity to represent Mississippi in the 2002 National Seniors Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This tournament features Singles, Doubles, and All-Events divisions and bowlers who were entered by the entry deadline may reenter the tournament based on a "lane available" basis. Local bowlers who are entered in the tournament are reminded to check their entry confirmations and aware of the dates and times they are to bowl. Everyone is invited to stop by Dixie Bowl during the tournament to catch the action.
Coming up later in December will be the Annual YABA City Tournament. Parents of bowlers who will be participating need to make sure their children are entered and get bowlers to the lanes thirty minutes before they are scheduled to bowl.
In local action last week James Dillard reeled off a nice 738 series to lead all bowlers while Rodney Bounds had the high game with a 278. Congratulations to Ryan Relinski, who picked up his first career 700 with a 717 set in the Hucklebuck league. Other bowlers "making the board" were Chuck Gray, Tyrone McAlpine, Tim Van Doren, Jeff Gaines, Robert Brown and Jim Broderick, Jr.
Shirley Gaines led the ladies with a 620 series during action in the Dixie Belles league. Shirley also tied with Sue Kirkpatrick for the high game with a 236. Other ladies making their mark included Lou Timms (230), Janie Tisdale (227, 233) and Marlene Stokes (227).
Note to readers: Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, scores for the Wednesday Night Mixed league are not included in this week's recap. Those scores, and highlights will appear in next week's column.
We hope all of you are looking forward to a happy holiday season. Dixie Bowl's annual Christmas sale will be kicking off soon with savings on all merchandise for the bowler in your life.
Until next week . . . Good luck and good bowling!
