The search for a project assistant with the American Cancer Society in Meridian begins today.
The position will be housed in the organization's new field office at 4825 A, Poplar Springs Drive. ACS is leasing the building from Winstead Realty.
The project assistant's job will be full-time. The person will be responsible for supporting the organization's field staff and volunteers and will handle patient service calls.
Allison Terrell, regional communications and marketing director for ACS, said the field office will be able to assist cancer patients in need with transportation funds for treatments, information on programs and finding resources for other needs they might have.
Melba Stufflebean, of Meridian, income development project manager with the cancer society, is conducting the initial interviews. "We hope to hire someone in December," she said.
Stufflebean said the building is almost ready. It is being refurbished with new carpeting and fresh paint.
The building will include a large reception area for the project assistant; offices for Stufflebean and Traci Thoms, cancer control manager; a room for income development volunteers; a room for cancer control volunteers; and a conference room and kitchen.
There will be four dedicated parking spaces in the front and the back of the building and a storage area in the basement.
