Clarkdale slips past Newton County

Jonathan Pickett's goal in the 79th minute led Clarkdale to a 4-3 win over Newton County in boys soccer action on Tuesday night.
The win was the Bulldogs' first in division action this season. They are now 3-0 overall.
David Prewitt scored Clarkdale's first goal on an assist by Pickett in the first half. Daniel Warren scored the next Bulldog goal.
The third Clarkdale goal was kicked in by William Clifton on an assist by Pickett. Pickett then capped his one-goal, two-assist game with the game-winner with 11 minutes to play.
Meridian Boys 10
Forest Hill 0
Leslie Rush scored two goals and picked up one assists, while David Pruett had three assists to go with one goal to lead the Wildcats to a 10-0 whipping of Forest Hill.
Andrew Gambrell had one goal and two assists for Meridian, while Jay Barry, Matt Griffin, Blake Remy, Jamal Smith, Steven Cook and Hank Holcomb had one goal each for the Wildcats.
Meridian is now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in region play. The Wildcats play at Columbus on Friday night.
Meridian Girls 8
Forest Hill 0
The Meridian girls soccer team took an 8-0 win on Tuesday night to move to 6-2 on the season. This was their fourth shutout of the year.
Courtney Harris had two goals and an assist to lead the Lady Wildcats. Katherine Bryant also had two goals, while Lee Ann Baldner, Sarah King, Kelly Brown and Katie Compton picked up one goal each.
The Lady Wildcats visit Columbus High School on Friday.
Lamar Boys 4
Hillcrest Christian 0
The Raiders of Lamar High School opened their season with a convincing 4-0 road win over Hillcrest Christian on Monday.
Dylan Anderson scored two goals for the winners, while Drew Moffett and Tommy Edgerton scored one each.
Justin Mitchell recorded the shutout in goal for the Raiders.
Lamar is now 1-0 on the year. The Raiders won two games in a preseason tournament, but they do not count on the record.
The Raiders return to action today when they travel to Hattiesburg to take on Presbyterian Christian. The Raiders' first home match is Wednesday, Dec. 12, when Trinity Episcopal pay a visit.
