Nominations for The Meridian Star All-Area Football Team will be taken through Dec. 20. The team will be announced in the Dec. 31 edition of The Meridian Star.
Coaches can make nominations in one of three ways. The nominations, which should include height, weight, positions and as complete a statistical package as possible, can be sent by fax to 485-1275. They can also be e-mailed at sports@themeridianstar.com or sent by mail to Sports Department, The Meridian Star, P.O. Box 1591, Meridian, Miss., 39301.
The team will be selected by EMG Regional Sports Director Austin Bishop and Meridian Star sports writer Marty Stamper.

Sumter's Sanders honored
Sumter Academy head football coach Glen Sanders has been named AISA Division 2-AA Coach of the Year.
The award is given to the coach that receives the most votes from his peers. Sanders has been head football coach at Sumter Academy for three years.
He has been a coach at Sumter Academy for 12 years, coaching basketball, baseball and power lifting.
Sanders also has three State Championships to add to his resume basketball in 1993, baseball in 1996 and in power lifting in 2000.
Sanders took his team to the State playoffs this year and his Eagles finished with a very respectable 8-4 record for the season.

Balance holds key for Lady Tigers
In Southeast Lauderdale's 86-41 win over Union last week the Lady Tigers had five players who scored in double digits.
Lesley Ruffin had 12, Sam Smith had 14, Kenitta Cooley had 22, LaShondra Hall had 12, and Shalondra Mitchell had 11.
All five of these plus Ebony Moore and Ree Newell have all had at least two games this season scoring in double digits.
With the loss of last year's standout Monique Horner, the Lady Tigers are taking a much more team approach with balance being the key word.
The balanced attack is working well for the Lady Tigers, who stand at 9-3 overall.

Northeast, West meet Tuesday
The two boys basketball teams with the best records in Lauderdale County so far this season are Northeast Lauderdale and West Lauderdale.
The teams have split the two games they have played against each other so far this season, and meet for a third time at Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday night. The girls game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game.
Northeast takes a 9-2 record into that contest, while West Lauderdale is 10-2.
Northeast beat West Lauderdale 66-62, while West Lauderdale returned the favor by a 78-75 count.
West's other loss was 59-57 to Neshoba Central, while Northeast was defeated 82-60 by Wayne County.
Other than the win over West, the biggest two wins of the year for Northeast have come over Neshoba Central by the scores of 79-69 and 76-71.
West Lauderdale's biggest wins, other than the victory over th Trojans, were against Kemper County (61-61), Choctaw Central (75-70) and Carthage (60-58).
