THE PATRIOTIC SPIRIT Billy Beal, chairman of the Meridian Redevelopment Authority, unveiled a sample of the "United We Stand" patriotic banner on Thursday.
The organization purchased 50 of the banners, which will hang over the streets of Meridian to show support for the nation's stand during this time of conflict.
The banners display the United States flag, the bald eagle and the Statue of Liberty. On hand for the press conference were Sharon Smith, Main Street/Union Station manager; Ken Storms, chief administration officer for the city of Meridian; Beverly Knox, banner chairman; and the Rev. Odell Hopkins, who sang "My Country, 'tis of Thee" during the unveiling ceremony.
Smith said the "An American Family Christmas Festival" will be held Tuesday at Dumont Plaza from 5 p.m.-9 p.m.
