Southeast splits two with Philadelphia

The 2-13 Southeast Lauderdale Tigers fell to Philadelphia 61-58 Tuesday night in a controversial situation.
Late in the game, Philadelphia was supposedly shooting a one-and-one foul shot. After the first free throws was missed, Southeast got the rebound and was fouled while it was shooting.
The Tornadoes called the attention of the referee, and noted that they only took one foul shot. But in a one-and-one situation, if you miss the first shot you are not allowed the second shot, unless you get the rebound. In this case SEL got the rebound so Philadelphia was not granted the second shot. Teams in the bonus do shoot two free throws after the 10th foul in the half has been committed.
After a 10-minute conversion, Philadelphia got the call it was looking for, and they made the shot to go up four points with 20 seconds left on the clock.
In this case, if the call had stood like the referee called it on the floor, his team would have had a better chance to win the game.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, as they only scored six points in the first quarter, but they were lucky enough to only trail by two points.
The Tornadoes led 36-22 at the halftime intermission, but SEL would show somewhat of a comeback in the second half.
The Tigers outscored the Tornadoes 36-25 in the final two periods of play, but Philadelphia held on for the victory.
Southeast cut the lead to three points, after two three pointers by Ben Reed, and an easy lay-up by LaPatrick Carlisle, but it could not overcome the three point deficit.
Reed and Carlisle led the Tigers in scoring, as they both dropped 16 points for Southeast.
Philadelphia was led in scoring by Tellas Burnside and Jonathan Davis, as they both dropped in 13 apiece. Tony Riley and Mandrako Jackson scored 10 points apiece.
The Southeast Tigers will be in action again on Thursday night, when it hosts Raymond.
The Tornadoes will host Nanih Waiya on Dec. 27, in the Philadelphia-Rush Medical Holiday Classic.

The Southeast Lady Tigers used the Lady Tornadoes to get ready for a championship showdown slatted for Thursday night at Southeast.
The Lady Tigers rolled over Philadelphia 81-64 Tuesday night in preparation for Raymond, the defending Class 4A state champs.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 2-6 lead in the first quarter, as they got some big three pointers by Samantha Smith.
Miller dressed only eight girls in the game against Philadelphia, but it did not seem to rattle his team.
Southeast responded well to the lay off, as it took a convincing 44-23 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The Lady Tornadoes scored 41 points in the second half, compared to 37 for Southeast; however the Lady Tigers held on for the win 81-64.
The 12-3 Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Smith with 26, Kenitta Cooley with 19, Lesley Ruffin with 16, and Shalanda Smith added 12.
The 6-9 Lady Tornadoes were led in scoring by Erica Clemons with 16, Shekara Young with 15, and Dominetria Hunter added 12.
Philadelphia will hit the hardwood again Jan. 8, when it travels to Northeast Lauderdale.
The Lady Tigers will host the 2001,4A State Champions on Thursday.
